Dear Editor,
On behalf of the UWG Division of University Advancement, I would like to take this time to introduce students to a new elite student organization that we are forming. The “Blue Coats” are a select group of student leaders from across campus involved in a diverse range of activities and pursuing various educational disciplines. These students enhance the impact of the division through ambassadorship, stewardship, and selfless service. By serving as hosts for different advancement events, the Blue Coats provide a unique student perspective of the needs of the university to alumni, donors, and friends of the university.
To be considered for Blue Coat membership, students must be enrolled full-time and in good standing with the university, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, have attended UWG for two consecutive semesters (fall and spring), and for this initial selection process, must have an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2015 or later.
Beyond the basic requirements, we are also looking for specific character traits that a Blue Coat must possess in order to serve the organization well. Members should be well-intentioned and have selfless motives, be passionate and zealous about their college career, possess a servant leadership mentality and, most of all, exhibit humility.
The Blue Coats is a volunteer student organization. If selected as a Blue Coat, members are required to serve at least 20 hours per semester. Most of these hours would be acquired through mandatory events such as Homecoming and Alumni Weekend. The organization will also have meetings twice a month.
Those who are interested in becoming a Blue Coat should apply at www.westga.edu/bluecoats. All application materials are due by Friday, October 4 at 5:00pm. If anyone has any additional questions, they may contact me at khemphil@westga.edu or 678-839-4103.
Thank you,
Kevin Hemphill
