The Department of Transportation is reconstructing the Carrollton bypass and U.S. 27 to increase traffic mobility through the interchange. After the completion of the reconstruction project, driving conditions will be safer and less congested for Carrollton commuters. However, lane closures from the reconstruction project could affect UWG students’ commute to campus as well as residents in the Carrollton area.
“This project involves the reconstruction of the interchange of Highway 166 and US 27 in Carrollton,” said Mohamed M. Arafa, Ph.D., Communications Officer District Six Northwest Georgia of the Georgia Department of Transportation. “It also includes the widening of the bridge on Highway 166 over U.S. 27.” The increased space will create a smooth merge for traffic through the dense interchange. The D.O.T is confident the anticipated space will present a safer driving environment for local drivers. “The project is intended to enhance the safety of the traveling public and ease congestion at the interchange,” said Arafa.
“The project is on schedule and is currently about 35 percent complete,” said Arafa. “It is expected to be entirely completed by the end of Nov. 2013 at a construction cost of little over six million dollars.” Months away from completion, the U.S. 27 and State Route (SR) Highway 166 interchange and overpass has remained congested. The reconstruction has added to the congestion because of lane closure due to the bridge and roads coned off in order to create a safe work area for the construction workers.
The morning drive across the interchange can be hectic for UWG commuter students. “The construction traffic getting to campus makes me to alter my route to get to campus,” said Michelle Silver, UWG commuter student. “Sometimes traffic gets backed up so far that I can’t take a detour.” In addition, commuters who travel through the construction area students as well as residents have to take into account traffic delay when managing their daily departure. “I have to leave early to avoid being late to class,” Silver said. Traffic conditions are equally congested during evening rush hours. Local residents and on-campus students can also be affected because the local Kroger, Publix and Wal-Mart shopping centers are along U.S. 27.
Traffic conditions will remain congested until the reconstruction completion date in late Nov. 2013. The reconstruction appears as a needed improvement for the growing Carrollton community. The D.O.T considered this community growth when they agreed on the six million dollar reconstruction project. “This construction project will improve the mobility and quality of life of the area residents and commuters alike,” said Arafa.

Well, those interchange takes rather more time than normal bridge. I hope it will be completed before it gets more irritated to the students
I would certainly express my concern on this issue, as i have been lot frustrated person in the world, who hat traffic. Traffic is the matter that every administrator or government person should take it on priority because if you are not clear with your transportation then it would be cause to you in conditions of natural disaster. I would be happy that advice would be concerned.
I have read your article and trust me it was all worth written about Traffic Condition. You have mentioned everything really well.
