CSI’s annual Spring Student Organization Fair was held on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and Thursday, Jan. 12. The event took place from 11 am. to 2 p.m. both days at the upstairs track in the Campus Center.
Students were notified about the event through their my.uwg and a small sign outside of the Campus Center. There was a difference of opinion as to whether this year’s location received a better turnout than last year’s location of being in front of the UCC.
The administration thought having it at the Campus Center was great, while the students were of the opinion it was only “okay.”
This year the location was perfect. Everything [went] great and we [had] a really good turn out for the spring,” said Crystal Brown, Coordinator of Student Involvement Programs. “Of the 150 organizations, we [had] 40 organizations that participated with booths for the event. It [was] a great opportunity for students to find out how to get more involved.”
Cookies, brownies, t-shirts, pens, and information were all being given out by CSI. Free stuff is always a great way to motivate students to show up, especially when the free stuff reminds students to “Lead the Pack” with T-shirt slogans motivating them to excel in every aspect of their college life.
Even during lunch, which was the least crowded point of the day, there were over 50 students walking the track to get more information about their opportunity on how to be more involved. Several booths had students agreeing to get more involved by joining in their organization. All of the representatives were enthusiastic about their organization, were ready to answer any questions that students might have had and were giving out candy.
Many Greek chapters were represented, along with several interest groups, such as the Student Activities Council (SAC), Anthropological Society, and the History Club.
“I liked being in front of the UCC last year better,” said Hillary Jolly, President of the Anthropological Society. “No one reads the UWG Pipeline. People don’t want have to swipe their card and come upstairs. But we are still having a pretty good turnout.”
She invited anthropology majors, minors, and anyone just interested in anthropology to come check them out.
“We have food with the meetings that are held every other week, like pizza or just potluck,” said Jolly.
Emily Teitelbaum, Advisor for SAC, thought Wednesday was busier, “but we are still having people signing up to learn more.”
