Last Wednesday the Multicultural Achievement Program (MAP) at the University of West Georgia held the 40th Multicultural Achievement Awards (MAA) ceremony at the Campus Centre. The MAA is given to minority students at West Georgia as a way to celebrate their academic achievements.
Carrollton Center for the Arts is hosting its annual BookFest, a literary event packed full of presentations from award-winning and local authors as well as several writing workshops on April 6 and 7. This event will be discounted for University of West Georgia students, providing the perfect opportunity for future writers to interact with professionals and learn more about literary arts.
Balancing a strong faith commitment with working a full-time job can be difficult. The demands of work often clash with the need for spiritual practices, creating a struggle to prioritize one over the other. Finding time for prayer, meditation or religious obligations may prove to be a challenge amid the hustle and bustle of the workday. Additionally, navigating ethical dilemmas in the workplace that may conflict with religious beliefs adds another layer of complexity.
Many dogs in Carroll County are either homeless or stuck living in the shelter, having to live amongst other dogs who haven’t been adopted. With many different attempts to get dogs adopted, the Carroll County Animal Shelter has discovered a way to help the dogs get adopted much quicker. They founded the Come-Over-Rover program. This program promotes and influences dog adoption by allowing volunteers to take a dog from the shelter and take it out for a day to inform locals about the number of dogs that need to be adopted.
Netflix’s ambitious venture into live action-adaptation with Avatar: The Last Airbender has been met with high expectations from fans of Nickelodeon’s beloved 2005 animated series. Despite the potential for a modern take on the fan-favorite franchise, and far from the disaster that was M. Night Shyamalan’s poorly received 2010 movie, Netflix’s reimagination of the series, led by Albert Kim as showrunner and writer, may leave die-hard fans wishing Netflix had left Nickelodeon’s show alone, as it fails to capture the magic that made the original a timeless classic.

It is hard to make a change in the world when no one seems to listen, but Canadian twin sisters Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn prove that all you need is a strong voice. These twins banded together to create music featuring powerful lyrics and heavy instrumentals to shine a light on uncomfortable topics such as gender violence, inclusivity and diversity.
UWG alumni graduate of 2016, Yonisha Elmadany is the CEO of a video production company called “Yoshfilmss.” With over 30,000 followers on instagram @yoshfilmss and a nationwide business, Elmadany helps film content for companies to improve their social media presence.
Since The University of West Georgia features many students with different and unique cultural backgrounds, they ensure that every student gets the representation they deserve. They go out of their way to make sure that the students feel represented and get to learn about different cultures by leaving the responsibility to the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Since 1981, Media Day has been the biggest event for the UWG’s School of Communication, Film and Media. The event is meant to encourage Mass Communication majors and any other students interested in a media career to learn about how to succeed in the industry. On Mar. 6 the 42nd annual Media Day will take place.
