An Inside Look at the UWG Tailgating Tradition

The tradition of tailgating has made its way into the University of West Georgia football stadium. Tailgating is an opportunity for students to gather and eat food in the back of parked vehicles before a sports game. The university has designated “The Hill,” for students to engage with the community and enjoy activities before the start of the game.

Daisy Gonzales-Castaneda, a first-generation college student, has been chosen for this year’s homecoming court, making her a spotlight figure just in time for Hispanic Heritage Month. As she embraces her role in the spotlight, Gonzales hopes to use this opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of representation and inspire others in her community.

WOLF Radio Encourages Voter Participation on College Radio Day

On Oct. 4, the 14th annual World College Radio Day will take place, a tradition that UWG’s WOLF Radio has participated in for over a decade. This year’s theme of the event is “The Soundtrack of Democracy,” which WOLF Radio will use to give resources supporting voter education and helping as many students as possible to register for the Nov. 5 election before the deadline.

Music is powerful. It may serve as a source of comfort when times are difficult as the lyrics to a song seem to almost perfectly convey the emotions inside of a person. Strong and powerful communities are formed when people enjoy similar music artists, and attending concerts can create memorable experiences that last a lifetime. The healing power of music is why it is often referred to as being “a universal language.”

A great deal of young adults who have taken advantage of the opportunity to participate in the college experience often relate to having an itching desire for success. This goes far beyond academics and future career aspirations. College students desire success in their social lives as they yearn for a place of belonging and connection. Along with success in their personal growth, and finally finding the passion that sets off the spark that they never knew lived inside of them.

3rd Annual At the Core Conference Recognizes Freshmen and Sophomore Undergraduate Research Across Disciplines

Wed. April 24, the Department of General Education celebrated student academic research and projects across different subjects in the Campus Center. The theme of this year’s conference centered on the title: “What’s Your Problem?” Proposed by Dr. Sal Peralta, the theme was aimed to umbrella all the academic, professional, and critical thinking not just inside the classroom but also as it applies to life in general.
