For the next couple weeks, the Art Program at the University of West Georgia is holding its annual student art exhibition. The exhibition is juried this year by UWG alumni Brittany Watkins. Each year, the exhibition aims to honor the best artwork produced by UWG students throughout the year. They awarded Donavon Thomas with the prize for best work of the show for his Zen Sculpture.
The Inner Fraternity Council (IFC) is off to a blazing start this semester after hosting The 2024 IFC Chili Cook-Off. The event was held Wednesday February 7th at the Greek Village Pavilion. It is no secret that every fraternity and their members love some friendly competition and it was as fierce as ever. After a month of school underway, this is the first big event of the semester that the fraternities could compete against one another. Every fraternity apart from IFC was invited to participate and all eight showed up, which created an all-out battle.
The Biology Program and the Special Events Committee at the University of West Georgia held its second seminar of the spring 2024 Biology seminar series last Friday, which welcomed UWG alumni Gillian Barber back onto campus as a guest speaker.
Middle school is often a challenging and somewhat awkward time in life where young people are attempting to figure out who they are and where they fit in, all while navigating school assignments, extracurricular activities and responsibilities in their homes. The stresses of being in middle school may be overlooked by busy adults, and it is indeed possible that the physical and mental health of a middle school student may suffer due to the student’s preoccupation with other obligations and the lack of time the adults in their lives can spend addressing such matters.
UWG’s Garden Club offers opportunities for students and faculty members to learn about and cultivate horticulture skills. By hosting events and having meetings throughout the semester, the Garden Club’s goal is to teach others how to care for the particular vegetation that they might like to grow and how to help the environment as a whole.
Christmas is around the corner, meaning the hunt for the perfect gift is on. This can be difficult as the price, uniqueness, and personal touch have to be just right.
It’s almost time for the University’s sixth annual Iron Wolf weightlifting competition exhibiting the resilience and endurance of student participants. While registration hasn’t opened for the competition, and said date has yet to be determined it’s never too early to get the word out.
University of West Georgia Director of Athletics Jason Carmichael was the guest speaker at last week’s Carrollton Kiwanis Club meeting, and within his talk, he gave some updates on UWG’s upcoming transition to NCAA Division One.
Since its opening on Oct. 20, the University of West Georgia showcases its second annual juried photography exhibition with the Infinite Weight / Present Histories display at The Vault Gallery located in Newnan’s Wadsworth Auditorium.
